Deer Valley Condo Fire Sale
December 28th, 2011 Categories: Deer Valley®, Foreclosures, Park City, Real Estate, Skiing
Breaking news….We have touted the opportunities in the Red Stag Lodge before, if you are unaware of this luxury condo building you can read our earlier posts, but the most important factor is its location.
In short, these luxury condos are walking distance to the slopes at Deer Valley resort as well as the St. Regis and on the free bus line just a couple minutes from Park City’s Main Street.
We have helped a couple buyers secure fantastic deals there in the past few months and now there is some extreme motivation on the part of the bank that owns two units there. Seems the bank has bumped up against its debt limit and they are now being forced to fire sale their remaining units in Red Stag. There will be a 20% price reduction on these two units in the next couple days.
These are two bedroom, three full bath beautifully appointed condos with private hot tubs and full kitchens.
These condos sold three years ago for well over a million dollars and they will now be dropped to just $499,000! Similar sized units next door in Powder Run are on the market for twice as much! There are two of these units available and when the price change hits the MLS there will be immediate interest as this is an extreme value for its location. Click here for details and photos Red Stag Deer Valley Best Buys
One more great Deer Valley buy is higher on the mountain in the Ridgepoint complex.
These upper Deer Valley condos offer ski in and out access to the complex, great views, as well as tennis courts and a pool.
This particular unit is priced $250,000 less than another similar unit and is the lowest priced upper Deer Valley condo available. This is also an extreme value and will go quickly. Ridgepoint Best Buy
If you have been waiting for the right time to get a great deal in Deer Valley, your time has come!

2010-11 Utah Ski Season is Underway
November 16th, 2010 Categories: Around Park City, Deer Valley®, Park City, Skiing, The Canyons®, Utah Facts and Fiction
Early Ski Season in Park City Utah?
As I sit here in my home office at 6000 feet watching the snow fall fast and furious it seems like a good time to speak of the season that is already upon us. With three resorts open alreadyand seven more resorts opening in the next couple weeks, Utah’s ski season is off to a great beginning (10 inches of new at Snowbird last night!) It seems like just last weekend I was golfing in short sleeves, oh that’s right, I was, and it looks like I’ll get a few rounds in later this week too. It’s called cross training, and like fly fishing, it can be done every month of the year here in Utah, despite the ‘Greatest Snow on Earth’ piling up in the higher elevations
Many already know about Utah’s embarassing plethora of skiing options, the fantastic weather and the feather light powder might but let me illustrate a few of Utah’s skiing finer points for the uninformed (like those who continue to suffer through Colorado ski vacations) by using some of the results from Ski Magazine’s Reader Resort Survey.
I kid the Coloradans, it’s a beautiful place and if you have plenty of time to travel not a bad place to visit, but having lived in both states I don’t think there is much of a comparison when it comes to recreation.
Utah or Colorado: Pop Quiz…
Q: What state has the most national Parks in the US? A: Utah
Q: How many ski resorts are located within an hours drive from the Denver Airport A: Zero
Q: How many ski resorts are located within an hour’s drive from Salt Lake International A: Eleven
Park City Utah Dominates Ski Magazine Rankings
Sorry Colorado, I won’t even mention that Deer Valley was rated the number one resort in North America for the 4th year in a row, that would be too easy and I know makes the fans of Disney World in Colorado very frustrated (if there was an award for most expensive contrived ski ‘town’ Vail would take it hands down! Pay to park? $12 hot chocolate? Sure why not!)
Rounding out the Park City resorts, Park City Mountain Resort was ranked 5th overall and the Canyons was ranked #18.
My bold prediction…The on mountain improvements the Canyons is making this year will enable it to challenge for the Top 10 next season.
Best Ski Resort Weather, Access, Snow, and Value…
Here are a few of the more interesting rankings in the Ski Magazine survey which ranked the Top Ten Resort in each category
Access: (What could be more important except perhaps Snow?) Seven of the top ten most accessible resorts were in Utah. Seven. Seven to Utah and Snowbasin and Powder Mountain were’t on the list!
Snow: (Arguably the most important category for snow sliding enthusiasts) Seven of the Top Ten rankings went to Utah Resorts. One to Colorado.
Weather: Critically important to a successful ski trip. Five of Top Ten rankings to Utah resorts
Value: (Need we say more?) Five of the Top Ten to Utah resorts.

Deer Valley Resort: What’s New for Ski Season?
November 23rd, 2008 Categories: Deer Valley®, Skiing
Deer Valley Utah — Ski Area Improvements for 2008-2009
Deer Valley® Resort was rated the number one ski resort in North America by readers of Ski Magazine once again, winning the honor for the second consecutive year. Deer Valley has been ranked among the top three resorts for eight years running.
All Park City Area Resorts Rate High
Nearby Park City Mountain Resort and The Canyons Resort were also reader favorites, placing 5th and 13th respectively.
Deer Valley is Consistent. Here’s why:
Deer Valley doesn’t rest on its laurels. The resort invested in improvements that will maximize visitor enjoyment, to the tune of about $8 million during the 2008 off-season.
Deer Valley On-Mountain Improvements
Cushing’s Cabin, located at the top of Flagstaff mountain, now seats about 50 guests and offer soups, salads, snacks, and new bathrooms. This will be a great spot to warm-up and grab a quick bite without leaving the powder stashes of Northside. Empire Lodge was also remodeled to maximize seating and flow.
Deer Valley’s Snow Grooming Gets Better
Major investments in snow-making will pay dividends for years to come and the addition of five new snow-cats will ensure that Deer Valley maintains the best snow grooming operation in the world.
Deer Valley-A good Neighbor
Off the mountain, the resort added forty-four snowmobiles to the fleet at Summit Meadows Adventures as well as securing much needed employee housing.
Important Deer Valley Dates:
The resort opens December 6th with the annual Celebrity Ski-fest and the mountain will close on April 12, 2009. The Freestyle World Cup comes to Deer Valley Jan 29-31 with aerials and mogul events that are free and always worth watching.

Utah’s Olympic Park in Park City, Utah
At the Olympic Park in Park City Utah average citizens get to experience the life of an Olympian.
You can experience riding behind an Olympian driving a bobsled at 70 miles an hour through the twists and turns of the Olympic track. This is not for the faint of heart or anyone pregnant or with back problems. It is however, completely fantastic, a once in a lifetime experience.
Other adventures at the Park include the chance to ride on the ‘steepest zip line in the United States’ or ride the chairlift to the top of the Nordic ski jumps.
Utah’s Olympic Park offers camps to train tomorrow’s athletes today. Even if you are in town for just a couple of days you may have the chance to participate in a ‘Learn to Fly Camp’ which could have you launching yourself into the air with skis on, planning on landing in a pool!
The two museums at Olympic Park are interesting and educational and the ‘Big Air Shows’ on Saturdays during the summer season allow the armchair athletes to vicariously enjoy the thrill of flying fifty feet in the air and splashing into a pool wearing skis.
The Olympic Park in Park City, Utah offers spectacular entertainment for the whole family. Weather, age and weight restrictions affect all activities so visit the Olympic Park website http://www.olyparks.com/

Family Fun In Park City Utah
December 11th, 2007 Categories: Around Park City, Deer Valley®, Dining & Entertainment, Golf, Lifestyle & Activities, Local Services, Skiing, The Canyons®, The Heber Valley, Utah Facts and Fiction
Things to Do With Your Family in Park City, Utah
If you can’t leave your kids with the grandparents and don’t have the nanny that travels with you, kids are a part of vacations. They can be really fun to have along as long as they don’t get ‘bored’ Lets be honest, family vacations can be challenging enough without having kids who are ‘bored’. Keeping kids constructively occupied without shelling out big dollars can be difficult in a ski town during the season.
The children’s ages dictate family plans on a skiing vacation. Can they enroll in ski school so you can get your turns too or do you need to get daytime babysitter? Are they skilled enough to warrant a private instructor so that skiing with them is an option? Price can really climb with private instruction, but the upside is usually skiing with your kids sooner.
Obviously, with a younger age range, reserving a childcare service for a couple of adult nights makes sense as long as you can find reliable child care. Many hotels have services for babysitting and some do more expanded children’s programs. The most trusted child care service in
Park City and Deer Valley is Park City Sitters.
Check the local Park City movie theatres, Redstone Cinemas and Holiday Village Cinemas, the indoor and outdoor ice rinks, Gorgoza Park and Soldier Hollow tubing hills, The Egyptian theatre, and the Heber Valley Railroad. White Pine touring grooms three different cross country ski tracks on the Park City golf course, where you can also arrange sleigh rides and dog sled adventures. Contact the tour operators for schedules and availability.
The Utah Olympic Park has museums, rides, shows and camps. Check them out at http://www.olyparks.com/
Or, better yet, buy plastic sleds for everyone, find a small, safe hill and enjoy your vacation, together.

Little-Known Tricks Locals Use to Rent Ski Gear in Park City
December 11th, 2007 Categories: Deer Valley®, Lifestyle & Activities, Local Services, Skiing, The Canyons®
Renting equipment should be an easy part of your ski trip, but it can be extremely frustrating if mishandled…
These Insider Secrets Will Save You Time and Hassle When You Rent Ski & Snowbaord Gear at Park City, Deer Valley, and The Canyons.
If you are renting from a shop try to make reservations in advance, especially for busy periods.
Many shops use databases to store your information, which can speed the process measurably. Try not to go when the store is very busy (ie 8:30-9:30 am), which may be difficult to accomplish, but worth the effort.
Pick up your skis the day you arrive. It’s one less hurdle to clear the next morning when the shops are always busy!
Check out the demo skis and boards available to see if you can lease to own some new sticks. This is usually the newest technology and may give you the edge you need to keep up with your kids.
Also, prices at the on mountain shops are a little more than those a little further away, so you pay for the convenience of not schlepping gear a long way.
If you do not have the intestinal fortitude to go to the shop (and who can blame you) you can arrange for a professional equipment rental service to come to your hotel or condo and completely outfit your entire family. You will need to make reservations and give sizing information in advance. This is a great way to save time and energy and the cost is not too much more than going to the shop.
These companies are listed in the phone directory. I personally recommend Skis on the Run for reliable service.

Après Ski Starts the Party Early in Park City, Utah
November 26th, 2007 Categories: Deer Valley®, Dining & Entertainment, Hotels & Lodging, Lifestyle & Activities, Skiing, The Canyons®
Despite Popular Misconceptions About Utah, Park City Has World-Class Restaurants, a Vibrant Nightlife, and a Great Music Scene.
Visit the hottest little ski town in the heart of the Wasatch Mountains and you may not want to return home! Traffic and crummy weather are highly over-rated, don’t you think?
Nightlife in Park City get started early and ends early by most standards. Bars stop serving at 1am , but the party starts early–while the lifts are still running.
Where is the best Apres Ski scene in Park City & Deer Valley?
After a great day on the slopes, you need a spot to kick back, relax, and re-group for the evening ahead. There’s a wide variety to weigh, so here are some options…
A taste of the award winning fondue in the bar at Stein Eriksen Lodge feels like a mini-European vacation.
One too many frothy Stigels at the Goldner Hirsh Inn, and you’ll be ready for a yodeling contest with the ski instructor sitting at the table sitting next to you.
At O’Shucks on Historic Main Street, you can order Schooners (huge vessels that require both hands to hoist the mighty drink) of beer, and patrons toss empty peanut shells on the floor.
At Talisker’s Tower Club in The Village at Empire Pass, club members lounge in oversized chairs in front of the massive stone fireplace, and sample delictable items off the après ski menu. Kids have their own clubhouse area downstairs for supervised arts, crafts, and games.
Most of Park City’s nightclubs are found on Historic Main Street. Harry O’s attracts top name performers year-round. The No Name Saloon, The Spur, and The Sidecar are other popular hangouts for locals and visitors alike.
Après Ski is More Than a Warm-up For Evening in Park City…

Après ski is under appreciated for the wealth of opportunities it presents.
“I have witnessed the birth (and sometimes the consummation and break up) of torrid affairs, reunions of long lost friends/lovers/enemies, business deals struck and abandoned, and ugly hands of credit card roulette.” says a longtime Park City bartender
Après Ski timing is critical. You don’t want to be uncomfortable in your ski boots and wet ski clothes, but going home to shower may keep you from getting the right spot at the right time.
Your best bet is to change your clothes (at least your shoes) and secure your skis in overnight ski storage facilities at hotels, resorts or in your vehicle. Otherwise, you may still be in your ski boots when you try to dance with that cute skier that has been flirting with you from the next table.
Find a place with good music, food and the right mix of people. Be sure to drink extra water at our high-elevation resorts and do not overindulge early.
One more thing…Get there before 5pm.
PS Be nice to your server as you may want to come back the next day–if you leave at all.
Happy Après!
